Sina Rassam
I grew up around childcare. My mother was a schoolteacher and later an early childhood educator and wherever she worked I often tagged along. She started her in home childcare business when I was at the University of Minnesota (BFA 2001), and I was often helping out whenever I was home for break. After I returned to live in Madison in 2002, I became increasingly involved in the business and in 2005 purchased our current location to expand the family business.
I enjoy designing play environments to meet children’s changing developmental needs, and building things big and small from play equipment to toys. I enjoy playing games with the kids as well as cooking them lots of tasty foods.
Jana Laughlin
Hello, I am Jana! I’ve been working in early childhood education since 2004. I grew up in Washington, D.C., and moved to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I graduated in 2007 with a double major in Chinese language and East Asian Studies. I’ve been working with Sina since we opened, aside from a school-year stint back in D.C. working at a Chinese-English dual language immersion charter school.
I am passionate about gardening, fiber arts, and the way those can intersect with my work with children. I am forever curious and forever learning.
We got married in 2010 in our garden and now have two school-aged kids of our own who grew up in our program. They love playing with the smaller kids and we can see how they have picked up a lot of skills over the years. Corner Garden Preschool is utterly and completely a family business.
We are are in our 19th year of operation and still love working with small children. Our days have rhythm but are never the same, there’s always more to learn.
Important things to know before contacting us:
We currently, (as of 1/2/2024), have one spot available for any contract option for the remainder of the 2023/24 school year.
Our contract year/school year goes from September 1st to August 31st. For the 2024/25 school year, care on Fridays will be limited to four spots. If there is greater demand for these spots, we may try to hire more staff to meet that demand but will initially contract only the first four spots. Families wishing to secure a full-time spot for any date later than September 1st, 2024, would still need to sign and pay for that spot starting September 1st 2024.
